El precio de la autonomía: estrés y bienestar de los trabajadores autónomos en Ecuador analiza las condiciones laborales, el estrés y el bienestar de los trabajadores por cuenta propia, con especial atención a la provincia de Manabí. La obra examina el trabajo autónomo dentro del contexto socioeconómico ecuatoriano y aborda las tensiones existentes entre la autonomía, la flexibilidad y la libertad de decisión, por un lado, y la incertidumbre económica, las elevadas demandas laborales y la limitada protección social, por otro.
El análisis se fundamenta principalmente en el modelo Demanda-Control-Apoyo Social (JDCS), que permite comprender cómo la interacción entre las exigencias laborales, el grado de control sobre el trabajo y el apoyo social influye en el estrés y el bienestar de los trabajadores autónomos. Asimismo, la obra estudia factores relacionados con la calidad intrínseca del trabajo, la satisfacción laboral, la autonomía, la seguridad financiera, las redes de apoyo, el equilibrio entre trabajo y vida personal y las perspectivas futuras de los emprendimientos. Los resultados muestran que el bienestar no depende únicamente de la intensidad de las demandas laborales, sino del equilibrio entre estas, el control percibido y los recursos sociales disponibles; además, determinadas condiciones asociadas a la autonomía pueden convertirse en fuentes de presión cuando implican mayores responsabilidades y exigencias. El libro ofrece evidencia contextualizada sobre el trabajo autónomo en Ecuador y formula recomendaciones orientadas al fortalecimiento de las redes de apoyo, la gestión del estrés, la protección social y el diseño de políticas públicas que contribuyan a un entorno emprendedor más saludable y sostenible.
